The Black Hills are located in a hotbed of natural beauty. Both the Badlands and Wind Cave National Park are nearby. They’re called hills but they are technically mountains. Among the “hills,” you’ll find Harney Peak, the tallest mountain west of the Rockies. Compared to the average mountain hike, Harney Peak is relatively easy. Also located in the Black Hills is the monumental Mount Rushmore.
The Sandhills region of Nebraska covers quite an area. They represent the largest sand dune formation in the Western Hemisphere. You can find dunes exceeding 300 feet in the area.
If you are a waterpark aficionado, then the Wisconsin Dells are for you. They don’t call it the Waterpark Capital of the World for nothing! There are 18 outdoor water parks and three indoor parks in case you get the urge in the winter months. Of course, wave pools aren’t the only attraction. There’s also “golf courses, go-kart tracks, mini-golf, horseback riding and camping,” according to USA Today.
Wherever you decide to go, remember that it’s the journey as much as the destination!
