Most auto enthusiasts are focused on the latest and greatest new vehicles currently being released throughout the automotive industry. One man has his eye on the past and, based on his custom creation, he’s pretty adamant about his projects. Michael Wymer created a customized 1961 GMC Suburban that turned out to be a monster in its own right.
The custom project vehicle boasts a massive 6.6-liter Duramax V8 engine that tears over most terrain with an impressive 427 hp and 754 lb-ft of torque. This incredible vehicle is entirely capable of heading off-road, an activity that Wymer does regularly.
Normally such a massive project requires a full team to complete but Wymer flew solo on creating the customized Suburban.
The project began as a 2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD chassis and quickly grew from there. Wymer added a lift kit, shortened the CV axels, built his own upper control arms, and more. The classic Suburban sat comfortably on the chassis, which Wymer had shorted by about three feet.
The truck is entirely functional and can town and haul whatever Wymer needs to move. The off-roading vehicle can withstand everything road can throw at with, despite its retro look.
We here at Watters Autoland can’t help but be impressed by Wymer’s customized Suburban!
